The Management Team
Ed McLaughlin – Managing Partner and CEO
Ed McLaughlin formed Blue Sunsets LLC to invest in distressed asset recovery as a developer and venture investor. He brings 33 years of business experience to the Company, along with a track record of building highly successful enterprises. In 1991 he founded United Systems Integrators Corporation (USI) to provide comprehensive real estate outsourcing services to corporations and institutions. USI provided dedicated, on-site professional staff of real estate transaction managers, architects, designers, project managers, strategic consultants and technology specialists to manage their clients’ real estate portfolios, which held more than 30,000 properties and occupied over 300 million square feet of office, industrial, retail and technology space. USI’s clients included Boeing, Computer Sciences Corporation, T-Mobile, Toshiba America and United Technologies. The firm’s dramatic growth and success resulted in Ed being honored as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001 by Ernst & Young, and USI being named to the Inc. 500 List of America’s Fastest Growing Companies. In 2005 Ed led USI into a strategic sale agreement with Johnson Controls for the purpose of establishing the industry-leading, global, end-to-end integrated real estate and facility management services company. After the acquisition, Ed became President & CEO of JCI’s Global Workplace Business for the Americas.
Prior to starting USI, Ed was a Partner with Trammell Crow Company, a global real estate development company based in Dallas. He also had a successful technology career with IBM and Hewlett-Packard as a regional manager responsible for sales and marketing functions. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from The College of the Holy Cross. Ed is a Member of the Board of Governors for Tufts Medical Center and Founder of the David E. Wazer Breast Cancer Research Fund.
David Gensemer - Executive Vice President
David Gensemer is a proven leader with over 24 years of real estate experience which has spanned portfolio assessment, feasibility analysis, entitlement and construction of large-scale projects, complex space strategies, property acquisition and disposition, and facilities management. David brings to Blue Sunsets the ability to adeptly manage the issues that arise during a project’s life cycle.
Over the course of his career, David has delivered over 12 million SF of new space on four continents with a value in excess of $7 billion and has managed real estate portfolios totaling 40 million SF. His experience includes leading expansion projects for Westfield retail property group; growing revenues 33% and profits 50% as a real estate consultant for USI / Johnson Controls; and developing, consolidating and expanding corporate facilities for The Walt Disney Company.
David has been acknowledged for rigorous adherence to quality standards, schedules, and budgets, often completing projects ahead of schedule and under budget. He has worked with some of the top architects in the world, and resolved community concerns regarding projects. He knows how to balance the needs of the business units with the objectives and budget of the corporation, without major compromise of the program or quality of the projects. Prior to his work at USI, David was in charge of development, design, construction and management at The Staubach Company and JMB Realty. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an MBA.
Paul McLaughlin - Vice President & Principal
Paul McLaughlin joined Blue Sunsets LLC in June 2011 as a Project Manager. Paul has supported the acquisition and development of residential projects. Based on his contributions, Paul was promoted to Vice President & Principal in November 2012. In his new role, Paul is responsible for residential development projects, specific angel investments, and general business administration.
As a developer, Paul coordinates financial resources while working on-site with architects, designers, contractors and realtors expertly coordinating their services to deliver high-quality residential homes in the Northeast Region. As a principal owner, Paul has the responsibility to manage the financial performance of specific small business investments. Paul is actively involved in business planning and operations while taking a hands-on approach to asset management.
Additionally, Paul has served as a Project Analyst on the strategy, structure and design of a global corporate services business for a tier-1 commercial real estate services company. Before starting his career, Paul has held internships with Johnson Controls and Morgan Stanley. Paul has a BA in Mathematics from the College of the Holy Cross.
